Nada Gogo is a world-famous set of five areas in Hyogo Prefecture known for sake (Japanese rice wine) breweries. Mikage-go, located in Higashinada-ku, Kobe City, is one of the five areas, and it is home to Hakutsuru Sake Brewing, a leading sake brewery founded in 1743. The Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum, situated on the premises of the brewery’s headquarters, had been brew house No. 1, operating from the 1910s through the end of the 1960s. One of the “wellness activities” visitors can have here is a tour to see how sake is made in a museum. Actual facilities have been preserved in the museum to show the traditional process of sake making. Life-size figures are placed to help illustrate the procedures. This exhibit, demonstrating different stages of sake making, is designed to be easy for both adults and children to understand. On the first floor, visitors can taste sake at the tasting counter and purchase bottles of sake at a souvenir shop. It is a great place to familiarize yourself with sake－a product that Japan takes pride in. When you visit the museum, please inform the staff that you viewed the “Luxury & Wellness” section of the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau website, to receive a special postcard as a souvenir of your visit.
