Located on the south side of the honmaru (castle keep) in Osaka Castle Park, Hideyoshi, his son, and his younger brother are all enshrined here. Worshippers come here to pray for success in life. Originally built by the Meiji emperor as a branch shrine to Kyoto's Hokoku shrine in 1879, it was moved to its current location in 1961. Shusekitei garden was built on the premises in 1972. Because of its proximity to the sea, Osaka's prosperity has always been closely connected to bodies of water. As such, the garden has an ocean theme. With the shape of Hideyoshi's battle standard - a sennari-hyotan cluster of gourds - as the ground layout, a combination large stones are used to represent Mt. Ishiyama. Looking up to Hideyoshi, who started off a common foot soldier only to rise up to rule the entire nation, many people have an ever-growing collection of the shrine's sennari-hyotan amulets, said to bring success and luck.
