Jakkoji Temple (Eguchi no Kimido)
Jakkoji Temple is said to have been founded in 1205 by Kosobikuni, the daughter of Taira no Sukemori. After the Taira clan was deposed, Kosobikuni first worked as a courtesan in the Eguchi area before joining the clergy.
The temple is famous for a tale that states it was raining lightly when the poet Saigyo passed by this area. He asked the lady of Eguchi (the future Kosobikuni) for shelter from the rain, only to be refused. When he retorted by reading a poem, the lady replied in kind, and they ended up spending the entire night trading poetry.
