Nanpian Kannonji Temple is the site at which Hisako, wife of historical hero Kusunoki Masashige and mother to Masatsura, entered the clergy and mourned the death of her husband and son in war. The tales hold that Hisako built the Nanpian at this time. The land was said to have had a temple to Kannon previously established by Kusunoki Masayuki, whose son Masanori renamed the temple to Kannonji and made it the family temple after Hisasko's passing. The Nanpian and Kannonji Temple were both burned in war subsequently, but the Nanpian was restored in 1917, to be followed by Kannonji Temple soon after. This land was Hisako's birthplace, and tales hold that its stone pagoda is also her grave. The temple is beautiful and distinct throughout the seasons, from fresh spring greenery through summer cicada songs, and its autumn foliage is particularly famous. It draws numerous visitors from among history buffs and those sympathetic to the Kusunoki clan.
