Tarumi Shrine

"Tarumi" refers to water that flows down a cliff.

"Tarumi" refers to water that flows down a cliff. Located at the southern tip of the Senri hill, the shrine is geographically positioned to collect runoff water from the hill. Tarumi's god has been worshiped since ancient times as a god of water. In the 7th century, the feudal lord of this land, suffering in his palace during a drought, created a water pipe that allowed for the transportation of water. He was given the name "Tarumi-no-Kimi" (the lord of flowing water) and, deifying his ancestors, established Tarumi Shrine.
