Izumiotsu, a city with a bright future

Izumiotsu City promotes health through food based on the principles of medicine and food being one and the same, and body and earth being one.
The school and preschool lunches use only safe and secure organic rice and specially cultivated rice, and serve "kinmemai" processed rice, which is more nutritious than regular polished rice. We also provide menus themed around fermented foods, organic ingredients, local production and consumption, and seasonality, focusing on "food education" for children.

Aiming to become a leading city in preventing illness, we are promoting public-private partnerships and citizen co-creation to create a variety of options for resolving health issues by visualizing health conditions from both the inside and outside of the body, encouraging awareness. Healthy life expectancy is being extended through a variety of initiatives, including the "Toe Project" which aims to build healthy bodies starting from the toes, the "Women's Health Improvement Project," and the "Dementia Prevention and Improvement Program," which take various approaches that focus on mental and physical disorders.

Izumianashi Shrine is said to have been founded over 1,300 years ago, and its main deities are the husband and wife gods Amenooshihomimi and Kasugata Chijihime. The shrine has an unusual structure with two torii gates standing side by side.
The shrine is surrounded by vegetation centered around a group of large camphor trees. One large camphor tree fell in a disaster, but the shrine has preserved it in its fallen state so as not to forget this disaster. In addition to learning about the wonders of nature, you can also feel the brilliance of life from the new branches and leaves that sprout even after the tree has fallen.
