Tamura City, Fukushima Prefecture

With perilla power
Promoting the creation of a city where people can live long and healthy lives

Tamura City is a major producer of perilla, which prefers a cool, humid climate, and as a pioneer in the production of perilla oil extracted from perilla, the city is promoting the creation of a city of healthy longevity.
Perilla has long been known as "Junen," and is said to have been named this way because it is so nutritious that if you continue to eat it, you will live ten years longer.
Perilla is rich in alpha-linolenic acid, which is said to be good for your health, and continued consumption of it can be expected to have effects such as lowering blood pressure and improving blood cholesterol.

Tamura City is a naturally rich area surrounded by the Abukuma Plateau, and we recommend trekking to experience this nature.
The Gyojigataki Promenade is a promenade that uses an abandoned railway line that was used to transport lumber, and has been selected as one of the "50 Best Promenades in Fukushima." On the promenade that runs along the valley to the waterfall, you can enjoy forest bathing while listening to the murmuring of the stream.
There are also many trekking spots, such as Mt. Takashiba, which can be enjoyed from the azalea season in spring to the autumn foliage season, and Mt. Katasone, also known as "Tamura Fuji" for its beautiful shape, each offering different charms.

In Tamura City, you can enjoy sporting events surrounded by lush greenery.
In spring, the city hosts a cross-country race where participants can race along a course while enjoying the spectacular view of Mt. Katasone (Tamura Fuji), as well as a Sakura Walk where participants can enjoy the city's famous cherry blossom spots.
In autumn, a road race is also held, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city while racing, allowing you to fully enjoy the beautiful nature of the plateau through a sporting event.
