KAMITOWA (Papermaking experience)
It is the only place in Osaka that offers you a chance to produce "Japanese paper" from raw materials to make postcards, table mats or tapestries.
Japanese washi paper is renowned across the world for its high quality. It has long been used in sliding doors and screens, and forms an essential part of Japanese life. Experience producing this washi paper that has survived to the modern day in the crafts and manufacturing quarter of Higashi-Osaka. First, washi paper ingredients suspended in water are scooped onto a wooden frame and the base of the paper is created. Add seasonal flowers to suit whatever you make, be it a postcard, tapestry or table mat. The paper has to dry before it's finished. While you wait, enjoy educational videos about the washi paper production process. You can also find specialist papers and merchandise such as tosagami paper from Kochi, the thinnest paper in the world, or yuzengami paper, which is reminiscent of yuzen kimono dyes, ideal as gifts.
