Milk Manju Tsukigesho (hereafter referred to as Tsukigesho) is one of Osaka's most famous sweets and is a popular souvenir. Did you know that there is a factory in Hannan City where you can see the manufacturing process and eat freshly baked Tsukigesho? The Tsukigesho Factory, which opened in 2020, is a facility where you can fully enjoy the charm of Tsukigesho through various content related to Tsukigesho.

This is the highlight!
・You can see the manufacturing process of Milk Manju Tsukigesho, a representative Osaka sweet.
・There are also plenty of fun areas, such as exhibits and face-in panels.
・The shop is well stocked with products and also has an eat-in space

Milk Manju Tsukikage (hereafter referred to as Tsukikage) is a Japanese-Western confectionery made by Aoki Shofuan, a Japanese-Western confectionery manufacturer in Osaka, which began selling it in 2010. It has become a hit product, with annual sales exceeding 19 million units in 2024. Made with plenty of ingredients including Hokkaido kidney beans, butter, condensed milk, and honey, the smooth baked pastry is filled with melt-in-your-mouth bean paste, creating a flavor loved by people of all ages. Another variation is Iyemon Tsukikage, a collaboration with Iyemon, which features a slightly bitter matcha flavor.

Opened in Hannan City in 2020, the Tsukigesho Factory is, as its name suggests, a factory that produces Tsukigesho. On the first floor, you can observe the process of wrapping 3,600 pieces of bean paste per hour, the baking process that creates the unique texture, as well as the cooling, packaging, and boxing processes from the corridor. At the end of the tour, you can even enjoy a free sample of freshly baked Tsukigesho. No reservations are required for tours with groups of less than 20 people, and you can visit any time except New Year's Day. For groups of 20 or more, reservations must be made at least two days in advance.

Just inside the entrance to the facility, a video room shows a movie that tells the untold story of the birth of Tsukigesho. At the end of the observation corridor, the exhibition area is packed with content, including a shrine dedicated to the god of sweets, a corner introducing the history of Aoki Shofuan and the equipment used to make Tsukigesho, face-in panels where you can transform into characters familiar from commercials, and a kids' space.

At the "Pastry Class," which requires advance reservations (fees apply), you can learn how to make Japanese sweets and cakes under the guidance of a teacher. You can check the dates and contents of the classes on the calendar on the website.

Just past the exhibition area from the factory tour corridor is Aoki Shofuan's Hannan store, which offers a wide variety of products perfect for souvenirs, including classic Japanese and Western sweets such as Tsukigesho and Asayaki Mikasa, as well as cakes. The eat-in space on the second floor also offers the delightful service of complimentary coffee and Iyemon tea. Additional drinks and soft serve ice cream are also available for purchase.

The Tsukigesho Factory is a place where you can fully enjoy the charm of Tsukigesho, a specialty of Osaka. If you are a Tsukigesho fan, or if you like factory tours and sweets, this is a must-visit.
