Hagiwara Shrine's grand festival, held on October 12th, gives thanks for the abundant autumn harvest. The grand festival occurs on the Saturday and Sunday directly preceding October 12th, with that preceding weekend acting as an autumn festival. Each of the 12 neighborhoods in the parish provides a danjiri float, and after loading the floats with a sacred object at the shrine, they're paraded through the streets. With children's futondaiko and authentic danjiri manned by local youths, the atmosphere is open and free, allowing each neighborhood to express its individuality. Kagura lion dancers from Tsukisu Shrine in Sakai-ku, Sakai City participate every year as a sign of friendship, adding excitement to the lively festival. The highlight of the festival occurs all day on Sunday when the shrine grounds are packed with food stalls. Once the festival is over, the rice harvest begins in earnest in the fields around Hagiwara Shrine.
