Karahori Shopping Street

A street stretching for about 800m between Matsuya-suji and Uemachi-suji via Tanimachi-suji.

A shopping street that stretches for about 800m between Matsuya-suji and Uemachi-suji via Tanimachi-suji. This shopping street has a long history, enjoying brisk business from the Meiji era to the pre-WWII era. After WWII, it recovered quickly, suffering only slight damage from air raids. It ran Osaka's first sale with a lottery, which made it very popular. Today, original row houses of early Showa period and small alleys remain in the environs. Young visitors are increasing since old houses are being refurbished to become trendy shops and cafés.
