This terminal is for ferries operating between Funamachi 1-chome in Taisho-ku and Hirabayashi-kita 1-chome in Suminoe-ku. For 18 years from 1955, the route ran car ferries weighing approximately 134 tons which carried passenger cars and large trucks. However, after the completion of the Senbonmatsu-Ohashi Bridge upriver, service for car ferries was suspended, and the route converted to foot and bicycle traffic only. When lumber-processing facilities were shifted out of Taisho-ku to Hirabayashi in Suminoe-ku as part of postwar reconstruction projects in the ward, passenger numbers declined even further. However, the migration of industry appears to have made the water cleaner: Migrating birds can now be seen fishing in the area every year from October into April. Passage on the ferry is free.
