Osaka Shiki Theatre is the Shiki Theatre Company's first theater in the Kansai area, which opened in the building of "Herbis Ent" in the Nishi-umeda area, downtown Osaka, in November 2004. A Western-style, narrow and high-ceilinged theater, it enables reproduction of musicals produced at various overseas theaters. With a seating capacity of about 1,200 and its second-floor seats protruding above the stage, the theater is designed to make audiences feel close to the stage. Established in 1953, the Shiki Theatre Company enjoyed a major success in 1983 with "Cats," the first long-running show in the company's history. Now Japan's largest theatrical company, it has about 600 performer members.
