Also known as the "Hanashizume no Matsuri," it dates back to the days of the Heian period imperial court.
The changing of the seasons, from the time when cherry blossom petals begin to scatter in the wind until early summer, was believed to be an especially easy time for illness and disease to spread. So, a festival was held to suppress the spirits of disease and pray for good health.

    14:00 - Music, Shinto Kagura dancing, court dancing
    A special stage is set up on the shrine grounds. Shinto priests and shrine maidens make offerings of ancient Shinto music and dancing as well as ancient court music.
    Dancing, a carving knife ceremony, and other events are held the day before the festival.
