Located in Kozen park, which is famous for its plum blossom orchard, Tajihayahime was established in the year 580. The enshrined deities include the goddess Tajihayahime-no-Mikoto, famous as the god of safe childbirth, marriage, and warding off evil, and the god of scholarship, Sugawara-no-Michizane.The main shrine building, reconstructed in 1541, has colorful carvings of dragons, clouds, waves, praying mantises, seaweed, shells, and more. The building's carving techniques are a predecessor to those of the Azuchi-Momoyama period style, when carving experienced explosive maturation as an art form, and extremely valuable (national important cultural property, reservations required for viewing). Also, with plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, greenery, and fall foliage, the shrine is a beautiful place to enjoy the passing of the seasons. The annual autumn festival, held in October, features a stirring procession of five danjiri floats and two child danjiri.
