Tea Ceremony Rooms in Sakai City - Shinan, Oubaian

Let's enjoy tea at Sen no Rikyu's (tea master) hometown. Take a break at a tea ceremony room of sukiya style that was designed by a master-hand of Meiji period Ogi Rodo.

Sen no Rikyu who succeeded Wabicha(style of Japanese tea ceremony) was born in 1522 as the first son of Totoya(wealthy merchant of fish market). Visit Shinan which is a tea ceremony room in Sakai City and the ruins of Rikyu's mansion and more if you'd like to commemorate the grate of tea ceremony. Tea ceremony room of sukiya style was designed by a master-hand of the Meiji period Ogi Rodo in 1929. It's next to Daisenryo-Kofun Tumulus(the mausoleum of Emperor Ninto) and located in a lush Daisen Park. The building is an artistic two-story building and there are about 25 seats for a tea ceremony.It can be used as a tea ceremony for a lot of people. There is an another one called Oubaian next to it. It belongs to Imai Sokyu who was also one of the there tea ceremony masters and was born in Sakai City as well. And these are both nation's registered tangible cultural properties. A maintenance garden that connects these tea rooms is free to tour and there is a Kyu Judo-ji(Nine Story Building and a National important cultural propertie.
