Kamigata Ukiyo-e Museum

Located on a corner lot west of Hozenji Temple, the Ukiyo-e Museum houses and exhibits mainly prints of actors, including Nakamura Utaemon III and Kataoka Nizaemon VII, popular actors from the Bunka and Bunsei periods of the late Edo period. The four-story museum, each approximately 60 square meters, displays approximately 30 pieces from its collection. Ukiyo-e production tools are also on display on the fourth floor, and a kabuki-style noren curtain in black, persimmon, and light green is hung at the entrance to the rest area. A general ukiyo-e goods store is located on the first floor. While Edo-period ukiyo-e is characterized by beautification and exaggeration, Kamigata ukiyo-e are realistic, with detailed depictions of actors, props, and other items, evoking the lifestyles and customs of the time. The museum changes its exhibits approximately every three months.
