Osaka City Housing Museum "Osaka Museum of Living Then and Now"

The Osaka Museum of Living Then and Now is a museum with a focus on housing, covering topics ranging from daily life to urban development. With life-size reproductions of early modern Osaka townhouses and modern cityscapes introduced through mechanical models and videos, you can experience the changes in Osaka's town and lifestyle from the Edo period to the Showa period.

Exhibition information

Karakuri Nishikie

You can see how the scenery has changed over the years through mechanical devices and audio guides. Press the button to activate the mechanism. The button is 100 cm high.

Six Views of Osaka Homes

The model changes automatically every 30 minutes in conjunction with the theater (Housing Theater). The height of the exhibit is 73cm.

QR Translator

The signs in the building are equipped with QR Translators, which can translate between English, Chinese, and Korean.

Theater Seating

Housing Theater

Screenings are every 30 minutes, with a running time of 20 minutes. Benches are set up in front of the theater. (To prevent infection, seating is limited to two people.) You can stand next to the chairs or watch comfortably in a wheelchair. Subtitles are available in Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese.
