Facility information

KAIYUKAN

One of the largest aquariums in Japan, you can encounter a variety of creatures in tanks themed around the world's oceans, with a focus on the Pacific Rim. In 2013, a new interactive exhibit, the "New Experience Area," opened, allowing visitors to "see, hear, touch" and experience the aquarium using all five senses.

Reception: You can purchase your admission ticket at the ticket counter. If you have already purchased an online ticket or advance ticket, please proceed directly to the entrance gate.

Elevators and routes

Stairs and escalators are the common routes, but elevator routes are also available.

Public Route

After entering through the 2nd floor gate, take the stairs to the 3rd floor entrance gate. Then, use the escalator to go up to the top floor, the 8th floor. From the 8th floor, please follow the route indicated.

Routes for people who have difficulty using stairs or escalators

After entering through the 2nd floor gate, take the elevator to the 3rd floor, then use the dedicated elevator to go up to the 8th floor, the top floor.
From the 8th floor, there is a gentle slope downhill (with a 5 degree incline in some areas). From the 3rd to 4th floors, there is a dedicated elevator to go up and down to the new building, and staff will guide you there.

Exhibition information

Priority Space (Thoughtfulness Zone)

There are "Thoughtful Zones" throughout the museum, spaces designed for priority viewing.

Audio guide

The audio and video introduces 32 of Kaiyukan's must-see spots. You can carefully observe the creatures while listening to the explanations.
Supports six languages (Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, French, and Thai).
*Rentals are available at the service counter for 600 yen (tax included) per unit.

Digital Captions

The fish name plate has become a digital device, making it easier to understand and read.

New building 3F "Jellyfish Galaxy"

This is an area where you can enjoy a variety of jellyfish in a mysterious space. Because it is dark, staff will use lights to guide you if necessary.

Official Shop/Museum Shop

The official shop is on the 3rd floor and the official museum shop is on the 2nd floor. They stock a wide range of goods, mainly original Kaiyukan merchandise, such as stationery and stuffed toys, as well as nature and ocean-themed goods.

Facilities for infants and young children

Baby chairs and diaper changing tables are also installed in the men's and women's restrooms on the 2nd floor of the entrance building, and the men's and women's restrooms on the 5th and 6th floors of the building.

Nursing room

There is a nursing room on the second floor of the building. Men are also welcome to use it. There are two diaper changing tables and one private nursing room. There is also a sink, washbasin, and hot water provided. There is also a kids' toilet inside the nursing room.
