Chayamachi area

Chayamachi, Osaka's Kita district, is a prime youth district, packed with restaurants, entertainment venues, general merchandise stores, and fashion shops. High-rise buildings, including the long-standing Umeda Loft department store, the Umeda Arts Theater, and Mainichi Broadcasting System, mostly utilize comprehensive design systems to provide public open spaces, creating a beautiful landscape. In recent years, stylish restaurants and cafes have opened beneath the elevated tracks, and in 2005, NU CHAYAMACHI and other establishments have opened, making the area a hub for youth culture. Originally known as "Sanbanmura," the area was one of Osaka's most popular tourist destinations, bustling with teahouses like Tsurunochaya, Haginochaya, and Kurumachaya. The road where the stone monument of Tsurunochaya stands was also a key transportation hub on the Saigoku Kaido road from Koraibashi to Shimonoseki. It's said that Sugawara no Michizane visited Tsunashiki Tenjin Shrine nearby on his way to Dazaifu.
