Located on the south side of the main citadel in Osaka Castle Park, this shrine enshrines Hideyoshi, Hideyori, and Hidenaga, and is known as a deity for prayers for career advancement and good fortune. Originally built in 1879 (Meiji 12) by imperial decree of Emperor Meiji at Yamazaki-no-hana in Nakanoshima (where the Central Public Hall is now located) as a branch shrine of Kyoto's Toyokuni Shrine. It was later moved near Nakanoshima Library, and then moved to its current location in 1961 (Showa 36). The grounds include the "Shusekitei" (Stone Garden), built in 1972. This ocean-themed garden, inspired by Osaka's development as a seaside city, features a ground pattern in the shape of Hideyoshi's horse crest, a Sennari gourd, and a combination of giant stones to represent a "stone mountain." In honor of Hideyoshi, who rose from an unknown foot soldier to rule the country in just one generation, many people purchase one of these Sennari gourd charms at this shrine to pray for career advancement and good fortune.
