Ikeda Library
This library collects literary and theatrical materials on topics ranging from the Takarazuka Revue to cinema and kabuki.
This library houses precious materials and books with a connection to literature and theater. Experts come from far-flung places to peruse the materials here, which include not only film and theater documentation but ukiyo-e prints of actors, kabuki playbills, and performance programmes. Numbering 7,000 items, their collection of Kamigata (Western Japanese) actor ukiyo-e prints is said to be the largest in the world. The library was established by none other than Ichizo Kobayashi, founder of Hankyu Railway and father of the Takarazuka Revue. Originally located in Takarazuka, the theater’s archives were moved to Ikeda to make the library. As a result, it is home to posters and musical scripts that are must-sees for fans of the Revue. In addition to these theatrical materials, the library also stores items related to Hankyu Railway. Twice every year, Ikeda Library hosts an exhibition featuring items and materials not normally available to the public.
