Ikoma Building
The Ikoma Building, the head office of G. Ikoma Ltd., is located in the Kitahama area, approximately 2 min. walk south from Kitahama Station on Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line or Keihan Main Line. This stately building, completed in 1930, is one of the most splendid examples of early modern architecture in the Kitahama area. The building was designed by Heizo So, who also designed Naniwa Bridge (Sakai-suji) and Kunijima Purification Plant. The building features a rooftop clock tower, bay and round windows designed after a clock pendulum, and seven sculptures of eagles above the entrance (two locations) and on the show windows (five locations). Tasteful elaborate designs―spectacular Italian marble staircase and stained glass windows in the entrance hall and a scratch tile exterior (with vertical striped patterns)―evoke a sense of history. Tours around the building are available during business hours. The building is designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
