Ikoma Building

Located about a two-minute walk south from Kitahama Station on Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line or Keihan Electric Railway, the stately Ikoma Watch Shop's headquarters building was built in 1930 and is one of the area's most famous modern buildings. Designed by Soheizo, who also designed the Sakaisuji Namba Bridge and Shibashima Water Purification Plant, the building's eye-catching features include the clock tower on the roof, bay and round windows with pendulum designs, and eagle sculptures in seven locations, including two entrances and five display windows. The Italian marble staircase in front of the entrance, stained glass, and scratch tile (hand-scraped vertical striped tiles) on the walls also exude a sense of history. Tours are available during business hours. The building has been designated a nationally registered tangible cultural property.
