Japan Mint (Factory Tour)

This is an institution that produces coins, medals, commendations, metal crafts, etc. The premises also house the Mint Museum, and the "Cherry Blossom Passage" is held every year in mid-April.
The new Meiji government, in building a modern nation, believed it was necessary to reconstruct the monetary system that had been in disarray at the end of the Edo period, and established the Osaka Mint to manufacture coins that would rival those of developed countries. The Mint held its founding ceremony on April 4, 1871 (Meiji 4), and began manufacturing coins using Western-style equipment that was revolutionary at the time, playing a role in introducing modern industry to Japan in the early Meiji period.
