Bandaiike Park

Bandai Pond, named after the legend of Prince Shotoku's defeat of a demon, is a peaceful park where both migratory birds and humans can relax.
Located just a few minutes' walk east from Tezukayama 3-chome Station on the Hankai Electric Tramway Kamimachi Line, this 4.3-hectare park is centered around Bandai Pond, which is approximately 700 meters in circumference. According to the Sumiyoshi Village Chronicle published in 1927, long ago, a mysterious demon lived in Bandai Pond and troubled the people. However, Prince Shotoku sent a person from Shitennoji to chant a sutra, and the demon disappeared. The sutra chanted at that time was the Mandala Sutra, so the pond was originally called Mandala Pond. However, the name gradually became corrupted and became Bandai Pond. Today, Bandai Pond Park is a place of relaxation for locals, featuring playground equipment for children, radio exercises, and walking. During cherry blossom season, the park is bustling with local visitors, and in winter, birdwatchers gather to watch migratory birds.
