Osaka Tsuruhashi Market spans the three wards of Tennoji, Higashinari, and Ikuno, and is comprised of six markets and shopping streets with a total of approximately 800 stores on an area the size of two Koshien Stadiums. Located around Tsuruhashi Station on the JR Loop Line, Kintetsu Line, and Osaka Metro Sennichimae Line, the market boasts a lineup of yakiniku restaurants, Korean food stores, ethnic clothing stores, and boutiques, making it a bustling "international market" attracting people from all over Japan. Further inside, a maze of narrow streets leads to a collection of specialty shops selling everything from dried goods and daily necessities to fruit, as well as a wholesale fresh fish market, where chefs from Osaka City and even Kyoto flock to shop from early in the morning. The market's origins date back to the time of the war, when a black market opened in the burned-out area, and all sorts of goods began to be gathered here. Most of the people still run businesses there, and the market's exterior and retro atmosphere remain.
