Tarumi Shrine

The name of the shrine, "Tarumizu," means "water flowing down from a cliff."
The "Tarumi" in the name of Tarumi Shrine means "water flowing down from a cliff." The shrine grounds, located at the southern end of the Senri Hills, are topographically an area where spring water springs up from the hills, and Tarumi-no-Kami, whose shrine is located here, has long been worshipped as the god of water. During the reign of Emperor Kotoku, Toyokiirihiko-no-Mikoto (a descendant of Toyokiirihiko-no-Mikoto), the enshrined deity of Arimanokimi, the lord of the area, built a canal to send water from the area to Naniwa Nagara Toyosaki Shrine, which was suffering from drought. In recognition of this achievement, he was given the surname "Tarumi-no-Kimi" and founded Tarumi Shrine.
