Tenjinzaka

It is one of the Seven Hills of Tennoji, and is said to have been named after the slope that leads to Yasui Shrine, which enshrines Sugawara no Michizane.

This slope marks the boundary between Tennoji Ward's Reijincho and Osaka 1-chome, and is one of the "Seven Hills of Tennoji." Its name comes from the fact that it leads to Yasui Shrine, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane. Just before the top of the slope, a stone-lined drainage channel was constructed by the Osaka City Construction Bureau, evoking the long-standing presence of renowned spring water in the surrounding area. Within the grounds of Yasui Shrine, there are also remains of a well known as "Kanzizume-no-I," one of the "Seven Famous Springs" (Masui, Osaka, Tamate, Yasui (Ago), Arisu (Tosa), Kinryu, and Kamei). It's said that when Michizane was returned to Dazaifu in 901, he stopped here to drink water from the well on his way to visit his aunt in Kawachi.
