Located in a corner of Nagai Park, this museum focuses on nature and features five permanent exhibitions titled “Nature Close to Home,” “The History of the Earth and Life,” “The Evolution of Life,” “The Bounty of Nature,
” and “The Lives of Living Things.”
Focusing on Osaka’s natural environment, the museum houses a collection of flora and fauna from around the world, dinosaur skeletal specimens, and various other valuable artifacts, and is known nationwide for the uniqueness of
its programs.
In particular, the life-size reconstruction of the Naumann elephant and the skeletal specimens of three whales—including a fin whale—are truly impressive.
There are also exhibits where visitors can enjoyably learn about “The Lives of Living Things” through games and videos.
Other highlights include special exhibitions based on the research activities of the curators and a museum shop brimming with originality. The museum
also actively organizes outdoor activities such as nature observation tours.
