The Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Arcade stretches for approximately 580 meters from Nagahori-dori to Soemon-cho-dori. With about 180 stores offering fashion, cosmetics, miscellaneous goods, and gourmet food, it is a premier shopping area in Osaka’s Minami district.
Not only can you walk under the arcade to avoid direct sunlight, but it’s also easy to pop into air-conditioned shops and cafes—a real plus during the summer. Sennichimae Doguya-suji Shopping Street
Located in Namba, the Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Arcade is a specialty shopping street for cooking tools, stretching approximately 150 meters in length. It offers a wide variety of food-related items, ranging from kitchen knives, pots, tableware, and commercial kitchen equipment to noren curtains, paper lanterns, signs, and even food samples.
Because the arcade is relatively compact, it’s an easy spot to stop by even while sightseeing in the summer. Some shops offer hands-on experiences such as making food samples and glass etching. Senbayashi Shopping Arcade
The Senbayashi Shopping Arcade stretches approximately 700 meters, connecting Keihan Senbayashi Station and Osaka Metro Senbayashi-Omiya Station. The arcade, lined with about 200 stores, is home to shops that support the daily lives of the community, including fresh produce, prepared foods, clothing, household goods, and restaurants.
After World War II, the first Daiei store opened here, and the area was once known as “Japan’s cheapest shopping street.” In the summer, one of the best ways to enjoy the area is to stroll under the arcade’s shade, seeking out cold drinks, sweets, and locally beloved prepared foods. Here, you can experience the everyday life of Osaka—a bit different from the typical tourist spots.
