Osaka Museum of Natural History Special Exhibition: "The Great Extinction Exhibition - The Big Five of Life History"

In the 4 billion years since life first appeared, Earth has faced numerous crises that threatened life.
These events were primarily caused by asteroid impacts from outside Earth or internal Earth activities such as volcanoes, but sometimes life itself has been the trigger.
However, life has always resiliently overcome these crises, and by repeatedly allowing new groups to thrive in place of extinct ones, it has increased its diversity.
In other words, mass extinctions can be seen as phenomena that promoted the flourishing of life.
This exhibition traces the evolutionary history of "living things" as they fought for survival, unraveling the five largest mass extinction events (commonly known as the "Big Five") through various pieces of evidence preserved in fossils and rocks.
