The Kawachi area in southeastern Osaka Prefecture has been a famous grape-producing region since the Meiji era. Full-scale winemaking began in the Taisho era, and today six wineries are preserving Osaka's wine culture. Embark on a grape and wine-filled journey, touring wineries, enjoying meals, and shopping for grape-based treats at Japanese confectionery shops.

1. Adult Excursion: Asuka Winery Tour

We will guide you to facilities that you cannot normally see and the vast vineyards.

This tour of Asuka Wine, which is involved in everything from reduced-pesticide grape cultivation to wine brewing, is a comprehensive package that includes a tour of the vineyards and winery, a tasting of five of the winery's signature brands, and lunch. The tour is held once a month on a Sunday.

2. Katashimo Winery

Original wine that blends with Japanese culture, produced by the oldest winery in Western Japan

Founded in 1914, this winery is the oldest still standing in western Japan, and began using sake brewing techniques to make wine. Their sparkling wine, "Takoshan," made with Delaware grapes grown locally in Osaka, is the perfect pairing with Osaka's famous takoyaki (octopus balls). It makes a great souvenir.

Handmade Japanese sweets made with Kashiwara specialties as souvenirs

Their Japanese sweets, made with local Kashiwara mandarins and Delaware grapes, are popular. "Budo no Sato" is a baked confectionery made with white bean paste and homemade Delaware raisins wrapped in cocoa dough. With one bite, the elegant and refreshing sweetness spreads softly in your mouth.

Emperor Ojin's Tomb

4Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group

There are many huge ancient tombs scattered around, including the Emperor Ojin Tomb.

The Furuichi Kofun Group is a collection of over 45 ancient tombs located within an area of 4km east to west and 4km north to south from Habikino City to Fujiidera City. The group is dotted with numerous gigantic tombs, including the Emperor Ojin Tomb, one of the largest in Japan. All of the tombs are said to have been constructed between the late 4th century and the early 6th century.

A stroll through the beautifully harmonious streets of Edo period temples and merchant houses

It is the only area in Osaka Prefecture designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the national government. It retains old townscapes from the Edo period, including the former Sugiyama family residence, a nationally designated important cultural property, and Shironomon-suji, one of Japan's 100 best roads.

Enjoy freshly brewed craft beer at a brewery converted from a former sake brewery

A former sake brewery has been renovated into a beer brewery and beer hall in Jinanimachi traditional houses and other elements of the past still remain. Enjoy the pairing of freshly brewed craft beer, made with well water from the underground source of Mount Kongo, with delicious food.
