Unveiling of the National Treasure Nyoirin Kannon statue

The principal image, the Nyoirin Kannon statue, enshrined in a cabinet inside the Golden Hall, a National Treasure built in the early Muromachi period, is a painted six-armed statue measuring 109.4cm in height. It is called Nyoirin Kannon because it holds a wish-granting jewel. It is said to be the greatest Buddhist statue of esoteric Buddhism in the Heian period, and is National Treasure No. 5. It is a secret Buddha statue that can only be worshiped on two days each year, on April 17th and 18th.

Unveiling of the National Treasure Eleven-faced Kannon Statue

The principal image, a national treasure, is a single-piece, standing statue of the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, with most of its surface left bare. It is estimated to have been made during the time when Michizane was alive.
Additionally, the standing statue of Prince Shotoku, an Important Cultural Property, is a filial statue depicting the prince at the age of 16, and it has been determined that it was erected in 1286 (Kōan 9) based on the items placed inside the statue.
On April 17th and 18th, 2026, the principal image of the temple, the Eleven-Headed Kannon statue (National Treasure), will be open to the public as part of the "Osaka National Treasure Three Kannon Pilgrimage." It will be possible to view it together with the statue of Prince Shotoku, a former National Treasure (now an Important Cultural Property) also enshrined in the main hall.

Unveiling of the National Treasure Dry Lacquer Thousand-Armed Kannon Statue

The principal image, the National Treasure dry lacquer Thousand-Armed Kannon Seated Statue, is the only Tenpyo Buddha in Osaka Prefecture, and had its eyes consecrated by Gyoki at the request of Emperor Shomu in 725 (Jinki 2). With 1,041 hands, it literally has "a thousand hands" and "a thousand eyes," but even for a Thousand-Armed Kannon, a statue with a thousand arms is extremely rare, even nationwide.
On April 17th and 18th, 2026, the "Osaka National Treasure Three Kannon Pilgrimage" will take place, during which the principal image of the temple, the Thousand-Armed Kannon statue (National Treasure) enshrined in the main hall, will be open to the public, and the Amida Twenty-Five Bodhisattva Hall will also be open to the public for special viewing.
