National Historic Site: Imori Castle Ruins
Built near the summit of a mountain at an elevation of approximately 314m, this Sengoku period mountain castle is one of the largest in western Japan, measuring 400m east to west and 700m north to south. It was the residence of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, a Sengoku period warlord who has been gaining attention in recent years, and who is said to have been "the man who ruled Japan before Oda Nobunaga." It is said that during Nagayoshi's time in the castle, it was the political capital of the Miyoshi government, and the stone walls from that time still remain.
Basic information
- The Imori Castle ruins were designated a National Historic Site in October 2021, and the excavation survey of the Imori Castle ruins that led to the national designation won the "1st Japan Castle Association Grand Prize" sponsored by the Japan Castle Association, a public interest incorporated foundation.
From within the castle grounds, you can get a panoramic view of the entire Osaka Plain, as well as the wide area of the Kinai region that was ruled by Miyoshi Nagayoshi at the time, from Mount Hiei to Kyoto City, Takatsuki, Kobe, and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge that connects Awaji Island to Honshu, and you can get a taste of what it was like to be in the world from the top of the mountain.

・It was selected as the "Strongest Castle" in the NHK special "Japan's Strongest Castles" broadcast in April 2024.
