National Historic Site: Imori Castle Ruins
Built near the summit of a mountain at an elevation of approximately 314m, this Sengoku period mountain castle is one of the largest in western Japan, measuring 400m east to west and 700m north to south. It was the residence of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, a Sengoku period warlord who has been gaining attention in recent years, and who is said to have been "the man who ruled Japan before Oda Nobunaga." It is said that during Nagayoshi's time in the castle, it was the political capital of the Miyoshi government, and the stone walls from that time still remain.
