Expo ’70 Commemorative Park
Full of places to play and learn
A large park reborn as a lush, relaxing space with the Tower of the Sun as its symbol. Enjoy the soothing gardens that change with the seasons. The Myaku Myaku statues that stood at the east and west gates of the Osaka-Kansai Expo are now gathered in Expo'70 Commemorative Park (schedule subject to change).
Basic information
The 1970 World Exposition in Japan was held. After the futuristic urban space filled with pavilions built using the cutting-edge technology of the time was demolished, various trees and flowers were planted and the Tower of the Sun, which remained as a memorial structure of the Expo, became the symbol of the Expo Forest, and the area was reborn as a lush cultural park. This large park is loved by the people of Osaka Prefecture as a place to relax, learn about the Expo's legacy, and do outdoor fieldwork.
■ Tower of the Sun
The exhibition space inside the Tower of the Sun, designed by leading Japanese artist Taro Okamoto, features the 41-meter-tall "Tree of Life," a steel structure with 292 organism models of various sizes attached to the trunk and branches, representing the evolutionary process of life, from protozoans such as amoebas to reptiles, dinosaurs, and all the way to humankind. The interior has been open to the public since 2018, 55 years after its opening.
