Kuzuiji Temple
A Kannon statue that has watched over a long history and offers protection against evil.
Founded as the family temple of the Kuzui clan, immigrants from Baekje. It is also known as the fifth temple on the Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage and for the beauty of the wisteria within its grounds.
Basic information
It was founded in the first half of the 7th century as the family temple of the Kuzui clan, who came from Baekje. In 1096 (Eicho 1), a man named Fujii Anki lamented the dilapidated state of Kuzui-ji Temple and devoted himself to major repairs to the temple buildings, leading to the temple being nicknamed "Fujiidera" after his surname, and it is said that the place name "Fujiidera City" also originates from this. As the fifth of the 33 temples of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, it attracts many pilgrims and is known for the beauty of the wisteria within the temple grounds. The four-legged gate has been designated an Important Cultural Property as a building that well conveys the Momoyama style.
