Fuji Festival at Shindachi-juku on the Kumano Highway
A purple sea of clouds fills the wisteria garden on the Kumano Highway
The Kajimoto family garden is home to 40,000 clusters of Noda wisteria, over 40 years old. From the observation deck, you can enjoy the view of the wisteria, which resembles a sea of purple clouds.
Basic information
At Kajimoto's home on the Kumano Kaido, where the old townscape remains, a single Noda wisteria tree that is over 40 years old produces 40,000 flower clusters every year. The wisteria is at its best from mid to late April, and the garden is open to the public for about a week, attracting many visitors from far and wide. During this period, an observation platform is set up next to the wisteria trellis, allowing visitors to view the wisteria from above. The wisteria flowers spreading out below resemble a sea of purple clouds, making for a truly spectacular sight.
