A national treasure said to be a favorite item of Sugawara no Michizane
At Domyoji Tenmangu Shrine, which is worshipped as the god of learning, three of the six national treasures believed to be relics of Sugawara no Michizane will be on display in the treasure museum.
Basic information
Domyoji Tenmangu Shrine was established as the guardian deity of the Haji clan, and later became Tenmangu Shrine when Sugawara no Michizane, a descendant of the Haji clan and with whom the clan had close ties, was added to the deities enshrined. It is worshipped as the god of learning, and is crowded with people praying for success during entrance exam season. The treasure museum houses many valuable cultural assets, including national treasures said to be favorite items of Sugawara no Michizane, and belongings said to have belonged to him. The shrine is also famous as a spot for plum blossoms, and many worshippers visit the plum garden within the temple grounds every year from February to March.
