Basic information
Onji, Yao City, Osaka Prefecture, is home to Paleolithic ruins. Excavations at the site have uncovered pottery and animal bones from hunted hunts, dating from the Jomon and Yayoi periods and produced throughout Japan. This area is home to the "Funato Legend," which is said to have aided Emperor Jimmu, and a history as a sacred place for the Mononobe clan. Onji Shrine (Onji Daimyojin), listed in the Shinsen Shojiroku (New Selection of Names), compiled in the early Heian period, and Onji Sakon, said to have been the leader of Kusunoki Masashige's eight retainers, are also featured on this walk, exploring the history of the Onji area, which has frequently appeared in historical events. Following the walk, enjoy a delicious BBQ (with all-you-can-drink) at Chakichian, the former Kawachi Cotton wholesaler and Hagiwara family residence, a nationally registered tangible cultural property.
