Fukuyama Castle

Fukuyama Castle is one of Japan's most famous castles, built in 1622 by Fudai Daimyo, Katsunari Mizuno. Since 2020, Fukuyama Castle has been called “Reiwa's Great Construction”, restoring the castle tower to the state before it disappeared, such as the iron plate covering on the north side of the castle tower, and renewing the museum. Exhibitions are specialized to learn about the history of Fukuyama Castle and the Fukuyama domain, and increasing its attractiveness.

Miyagawa-suji

Fukuyama retains an atmosphere of the old castle town with promenade where you can enjoy the white walls along the waterway, Many shrines and temples are lined up along the Miya River which continues from Lotus Pond (known as Dondon Pond), and you can imagine what it was like back then.

And you can eat "Chii squid tempura","fried nebuto", "nanbanzuke" which is also known as a lucky snacks, and the limited menu "Inadaya Kanto-ni". And they serve dishes using Koshihikari rice from Sera in Hiroshima and fish from local Tomonoura fishermen.

Ushitora Shrine

During the Heian period, when Fukuyama prospered as a manor of the Fujiwara family, it was built as "Gozu Tenno Shrine" to enshrine "Susanoo no Mikoto", and was relocated to its current location in 1334. It's the oldest shrine in Fukuyama. After that, when Katsunari Mizuno, built Fukuyama Castle, it was praised as the guardian deity "Akitsu Shitora Daimyojin" who protect the northeast (Ushitora) of the castle's demonic gate. (The name of the shrine was changed to "Ushitora Shrine", and it is revered as the guardian deity of demons and the deity of warding off evil throughout the Fukuyama region.

Fukuyama Hachiman Shrine

The 4th feudal lord of the Fukuyama clan, Katsutane Mizuno, built it in 1683 as the Bingo Fukuyama grand guardian. The shrine buildings are so rare that these are standing side by side on the east and west sides in the same style and on exactly the same scale. To the west from the main hall, there is the "Sobin Shrine" which enshrines Katsunari Mizuno, the first feudal lord of the Fukuyama Domain. Every year on April 25th, people from inside and outside the city visit the shrine. And a dedication ceremony is held with " koto" and"taiko drums"and "kagura" performance.

A seafood izakaya restaurant with private room near Fukuyama Station.
