Kitagawa Village "Monet's Garden" Marmottan

Kitagawa Village's "Monet's Garden Marmottan" is modeled after the home and garden of Impressionist master Claude Monet, located in Giverney, France. Reproduced here are scenes reminiscent of the water lilly pond, drum bridges and wisteria trellis. The site is officially approved by the Monet Foundation which manages Giverney's main garden.

Cafe Monet's house

This is a cafe restaurant located within Monet's Garden Marmottan. In addition to being a master painter, Monet was an accomplished chef. Enjoy dishes that combine local Kochi ingredients prepared using Monet's own recipes. In addition to the calm interior seating based on a white theme, you can spend time in harmony with food, art and nature at the wood terrace seats overlooking Kitagawa Village.

The townscape of Kiragawa

The town of Kiragawa has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings and is a historical town that had flourished as a shipping port of Tosa Binchotan coal. Merchant houses with plastered walls and warehouses with draining tiles built during the Meiji period line the streets, making it as though you have went back in time to a nostalgic scenery of Japan. The outer “Ishiguro” walls that were built to protect the houses from wind and rain are another unique scenery of this region where storms often pass through.
