Osaka Castle Museum

Osaka Castle, which dates back to the Sengoku period as Osaka Honganji Temple (Ishiyama Honganji Temple), has always had a deep connection with Japanese history, having been involved in the Ishiyama Battle against Oda Nobunaga, its construction by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, its fall during the Siege of Osaka, its reconstruction by the Tokugawa Shogunate, its destruction during the turmoil of the Meiji Restoration, its subsequent control by the army, and its postwar development into a park. All of the ancient structures that can be seen today, such as the stone walls and moats, Otemon Gate, Tamon Turret, and Senkan Turret, date from the Tokugawa period onwards, and the entire area has been designated a special national historic site, with most of the ancient structures designated as important cultural properties.

The castle tower is the third in its kind, dating back to the Toyotomi and Tokugawa periods, and was restored in 1931 with donations from local residents. With over 90 years of history, it has been designated a national registered cultural property. Since its restoration, it has served as a history museum called "Osaka Castle Museum," housing a wealth of cultural assets relating to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the Sengoku period, and the history of Osaka Castle, which are displayed in rotating exhibition rooms inside.
