Sakuyakonohanakan

Approximately 5,500 species of plants from all over the world are gathered here.
Sakuyakonohanakan is a steel-framed, all-glass building with two above-ground floors, a height of approximately 30m, a building area of approximately 4,750m2, and a total floor area of approximately 6,890m2, making it one of the largest greenhouses in Japan.

The exterior of this building was designed to resemble a water lily floating on the surface of the water, as the original landscape around Tsurumi Ryokuchi was a wetland. The name "Sakuya Konohanakan" was chosen through a public contest and is derived from an ancient poem from the Kokin Wakashū collection: "Nanatsu no tsu sakuya konohana fuyu hori, ima yau haru be to sakuya konohana."

Construction of the museum began in June 1987 (Showa 62) and the building was completed in March 1989 (Heisei 1). The interior of the museum consists of a multi-purpose flower hall in the center, where various events are held and which also serves as a rest area for visitors. Around this hall, plants native to various climate zones on Earth, from the tropics to the polar regions, are cultivated and exhibited.

*7: The nearest parking lot is the "Central No. 2 Parking Lot" at Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park, Hanahaku Memorial Park. If you have official identification such as a disability certificate, you can present it and park for a maximum of 300 yen for 24 hours. Discounts are available from operators at the exit gate. In addition, to reduce congestion, discounts are available at Sakuyakonohanakan and Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park Center if you bring your parking ticket and official identification such as a disability certificate. *Sakuyakonohanakan does not have its own parking lot.
*8: Free for those who have a physical disability certificate, mental disability health and welfare certificate, atomic bomb victim health certificate, war injury certificate, or rehabilitation certificate (including one caregiver), and those aged 65 or older who live in Osaka City. [Proof of identity required (original copy of student certificate, health certificate, senior citizen discount pass, etc.)]

Nearest station: If you are coming by subway, get off at Tsurumi Ryokuchi Station on Osaka Metro Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line.
If you are coming by Osaka City Bus, the nearest stops are "Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park Mae" or "Moroguchi."
