Dark Pass

A dark pass that Basho also wrote about.
Since the Nara period, this has been the shortest route connecting Osaka and Nara. When Matsuo Basho passed through, the chrysanthemums were in full bloom. "The scent of chrysanthemums rises into the darkness - perhaps it's festival time." Basho is said to have traveled to Osaka from here and died in Yodoyabashi. During the Edo period, this road developed as a route for pilgrimages to Ise Shrine.
