Otori Taisha Shrine

As the Ichinomiya shrine of Izumi Province, it is highly revered not only in Izumi Province but throughout the country, and Yamato Takeru is enshrined as the main deity.
Japan's first "foresight charm" is hugely popular!
The shrine dates back to the 43rd year of Emperor Keikō (113 AD). It is a Myojin Taisha shrine that is said to have particularly remarkable miraculous powers and is recorded in the Engishiki Shinmeicho, a list of Shinto shrines completed in the 5th year of Enchō (927 AD).
Approximately 1,900 years ago, the spirit of Emperor Yamato Takeru transformed into a swan of eight fathoms and flew away. The swan descended on Kotohikihara in Yamato and Furuichi in Kawachi, and the shrine was established at the place where Emperor Yamato Takeru finally landed, marking the origin of this shrine.
Legend has it that when a swan descended, trees grew overnight and the swan was unable to fly again, and this is why the sacred grounds are known as "Chikusa no Mori."
