Nagai Botanical Garden

Osaka City Nagai Botanical Garden is a municipal botanical garden opened in 1974 within Nagai Park and is beloved as an “urban oasis.” Covering 24.2 hectares and integrated with the adjacent Natural History Botanical Garden, it features about 1,200 plant species and approximately 61,000 trees and plants, recreating Osaka’s native forests. The garden includes 11 specialized areas such as a rose garden, hydrangea garden, peony garden, and herb garden, as well as a 1,000㎡ “Life Garden” where seasonal flowers bloom in abundance. Visitors can enjoy peonies, daffodils, and tulips in spring; water lilies, silk trees, and crape myrtles in summer; kenaf, cosmos, and bush clover in autumn; and plums, camellias, and Christmas roses in winter. A highlight is the 3,800㎡ Hydrangea Garden, planted with about 30 varieties and 6,200 hydrangea bushes, from classic to rare types. Within the park, the Osaka Museum of Natural History displays dinosaur skeletons excavated in Osaka and other valuable collections, helping visitors learn about Osaka’s origins and the relationship between nature and people in the Jomon and Yayoi periods.
