Abeno Tennoji Illuminage

Abeno Tennoji Illumina-Ju is a loop-style winter illumination event held in Tennoji Park. Organized by the Japan Illumination Association, the event began in 2012 as a reconstruction-support initiative following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Venues include the area around the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art and Mt. Chausuyama. In the 2012–2013 season, about two million LED lights were used, forming seven zones such as a roughly 15-meter “Tower of Light” and a promenade stretching about 100 meters colored in seven hues. In the 2015–2016 season, to mark the 100th anniversary of Tennoji Zoo, 101 animal illumination displays were exhibited. Illumination works themed on Sanada Yukimura and the Sanada Ten Braves—figures active in the “Siege of Osaka”—were also featured, with displays such as “Chausuyama Ancient Battlefield” and “The Sanada Camp of Light.” Admission is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for elementary school children and under; children under 3 enter free.
