Naniwa Kuishinbo Yokocho Alley

Naniwa Kuishinbo Yokocho is a food-themed park gathering delicious Kansai specialties, located about a 5-minute walk from Osaka Metro Osakako Station and close to Kaiyukan Aquarium. Situated on the 2nd floor of Tempozan Marketplace, the interior recreates an Osaka streetscape from around Showa 40 (mid-1960s), just before the Osaka Expo, imagining a fictional Kansai town. You’ll see nostalgic elements like three-wheeled trucks, red postboxes, and old JNR station ticket gates, while the walls are decorated with posters and signs from then-popular Nikkatsu films. The space feels like a time slip back to the Showa era. Inside are about 20 shops featuring Kansai soul foods such as takoyaki, ikayaki, and okonomiyaki—icons of “konamon” (flour-based) culture—as well as famous long-loved establishments. Highlights include “Boteju,” known for being the first to serve okonomiyaki with mayonnaise (now commonplace), “Hokkyokusei,” said to be the birthplace of omurice, and “Jiyuken” curry, which novelist Sakunosuke Oda is said to have eaten.
