Sendannoki Bridge
Sendan-no-Ki Bridge is a bridge spanning a two-lane, northbound one-way road between Sakaisuji and Midosuji, and directly ahead after crossing it stands the Osaka City Central Public Hall. The bridge crosses the Tosabori River in Osaka and connects Nakanoshima in Kita Ward with Kitahama in Chuo Ward. It has also been selected as one of the “Naniwa’s 50 Famous Bridges.” It is located very close to Yodoyabashi Station on the Keihan Main Line and Osaka Metro Midosuji Line. The first bridge, built in the early Edo period to allow travel between Nakanoshima—where feudal storehouses once stood—and Semba, was washed away in the Yodo River Great Flood of 1885. The bridge was later rebuilt in 1914 and again in 1935, and the current Sendan-no-Ki Bridge was completed in 1985. Because of this, the bridge itself is a simple reinforced-concrete structure, but the sidewalks are brick-paved and there is plenty of greenery, giving it a pleasant atmosphere. From here you can enjoy views of buildings such as the Osaka City Central Public Hall, creating a slightly retro mood. Compared with Yodoyabashi and Naniwabashi, traffic and foot traffic are lighter, and it is said to be a bridge well suited for a leisurely walk.
