Nakanoshima Library
Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library is notable not only as a library but also for its outstanding architecture. It sits in the heart of the office district on the east side of Nakanoshima, between Osaka City Hall and the Osaka Central Public Hall. The building is a heavy, dignified structure with a three-story stone façade and a copper-roofed dome, representing an excellent example of Neo-Baroque style—so much so that many people visit just to see the building itself. The library was established in 1904 after the 15th head of the Sumitomo family, Sumitomo Kichizaemon Tomoito, donated the building and funds for purchasing books. In addition to old documents and Osaka-related literature, it also holds many business-related books, reflecting the surrounding business district. It is easily accessible from multiple stations including Yodoyabashi, Ōebashi, and Naniwabashi.
